Habitat & distribution: Subsp. indica is widely planted in the Gulf and presumably in Qatar; it is native to parts of Saudi Arabia and Oman. Uses: The wood has various construction uses and can used as firewood and for producing charcoal. The bark is a source of tannin and dye. Gum Arabic is obtained from this and other Acacia species and used commercially as stabiliser in the food industry; also as an ingredient in other products such as glues, paints and cosmetics.
